Week 4: 5 Thoughts

There were upsets all over the league last week. How does this impact things going forward

Week 4: 5 Thoughts

Week 4 turned some things on its head with a handful of big upsets in a few divisions. Meanwhile other divsions are seeing a growing gap between the favorites and the also rans. Let's dive into it.

1) Upset City Baby

Basically every division aside from D1 saw a big upset this week. In D3 Rust Belt United and Iron Lungz FC spoiled the day with wins over Cheektowaga and Meerkats FC respectively. Hamburg got off the mat some to draw Youngstown Marksmen 4-4 while the Gunners shot down Buffalo Brighten Stars 1-0. In Championship Niagara FC grabbed a sorely needed 4-2 victory over Polonia and the biggest surpise of the weekend was the blow out 6-2 Southtowns FPFC victory vs Celtic United in Premier. These results prove once again that the league is as competitive across the board and even big favorites (check out @BDSLGambling on twitter for some fun lines!) are susceptable.

2) Mind the Gap

I would have to say a clear line in the sand has been drawn in Championship division at this point. Even with the Polonia loss this past weekend the top four teams here, Beast City SC, Roos FC the afore mentioned Polonia, and OP aliance have a healthy 5 point gap from the challengers. Same story in D1 Pepper as Cavallucci Marini and Olean might be able to start planning for playoff dates already. Finally in D2 Odenbach Great White Buffalo, USAB FC, and NY Elite are virtual locks at this early stage as well.

3) Over 35 Fun

Not to be outdone in the excitement, our elder league has seen the point gaps narrow for the top spots. Old Bhoys have fallen back in the last two games while Azzurri knocked off A vastly improved Oranje side. Even CS Italia secured 3 points in a win over Aztecas FC. Early results have been fun to follow here.

4) WTF is going on...

Look I'm not exactly trying to pile on here but Medina and Buffalo Celtic are spiraling here. Medina has given up at least 3 goals in the last 3 games. 2019 season scoring leader and team manager Barry Rogenmoser has exactly 0 goals and 1 assist. Yuck. Buffalo Celtic right now are on pace to conceed 55 goals. They've been shut out in 3 of there 4 games and have scored just a single goal. Long path back for both teams.

5) Continued Fair Play

After week 1 I stated how great the card counts were across all BDSL and after 1 month this trend has held true. Yellow cards are starting to creep up but reds are on a record low pace especially when you consider several reds were for DOGSO. But overall things continue to be on the up and up. Thanks everyone.
